Bako Dabi - Founder & President - Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Bako: was born in a remote village of Rimenze, into middle class family, raised by a single mother of eight in South Sudan (moved to Canada in 1997 and obtained his High School Diploma at Winnipeg Adult Education Centre. Took some courses in International Development & Conflict Resolution Studies at Mino Simon College (University of Winnipeg: Winnipeg, Manitoba). Lived in Ethiopia for 3 years 1994-1997 as a refugee in Dima Refugees Camp before moving to his permanent home in Canada, after living in Canada for more than ten years, he traveled to South Sudan in 2008 after the (2005 CPA between the SPLA/M and the Sudan Government) in persuasion looking for his parents and other relatives. As the weeks passed by while in South Sudan, he noticed there seemed to be an ever-growing number of boys and girls begging and living on the streets in numbers of towns across the country. He learned that these kids were mostly orphans who had no foster parents or relatives to turn to and/or where neglected living a Life At Zero (an absolute poverty) inspired Dabi to lend a helping hand to orphans and unaccompanied children left without parents It is a point in life where he became devoid of human cognitive semblance and merely operated as biological life now known as, Life At Zero. After returning back to Canada from South Sudan, the motto was: There are "no problems just solutions to building this children future life sustainable". And so after much thought and planning, Life At Zero Development Initiative was born in 2009. The core mission was to identify and rescue these orphaned children who find themselves unwanted and alone in the world – before more boys running into the market as panhandler or shop lifters and prostitution leading additional girls onto the streets. In 2010 he introduced, LAZDI to Calgary East Church of the Nazarene which had been generously so far supporting LAZDI projects. The communities of Nayure and Ikpiro neighbourhood had fulfilled the dream of providing land which needs to be developed as school yard and loving careering family orphanage home to unwanted children.
